College and Credit Report

Going off to college is a time of freedom to many young adults. It is a time to leave the nest and security of mom and dad and take off on a journey into the unknown future. It is a time to find yourself and find out what you want to do with your life.

Going to college also means juggling classes, papers, exams, social life, and the forever ongoing struggle of finances. College is expensive. Not only do you need to make sure that enough is in the bank for tuition and room and board, but books, supplies, entertainment and miscellaneous expenses can all add up very quickly and bust your budget.

More and more college students rely on obtaining credit cards to support their finances when income seems to be insufficient. If you do choose to obtain a credit card to pay certain obligations during the college years, the most important thing to do is education yourself on all of the options.

Credit cards vary in annual percentage rates as well as annual fees. Also, rates vary on purchases versus balance transfers. Reading the fine print is always important when obtaining literature on the credit card offers.

By obtaining a credit report, college students can keep track of their open balances as well as if there appears to be any erroneous information posted on the report. By being quick to make the appropriate contact in order to clean the credit report of any errors, college students are saving themselves large headaches in the future and avoiding paying off balances that do not belong to them in the first place.

A free credit report will help college students stay honest and see how much they will need to pay back in the future. By being a responsible adult now and searching out various offers that fit your budget and payment needs and by staying on top of your credit report, college students can pave the way for a responsible financial future.
